Soapbox: Claire's job is a hit on the Street
by Rachel Broady26/ 5/2005
CORONATION STREET Claire crashes her bus on the
first day at work and could spend the rest of her days at the depot
being referred to as a "stupid woman driver" despite her having to
swerve to avoid hitting Joshua. It's lucky she never got that
tram-driving job, eh?
While Shelley's sitting in her room, a black eye the size of an
orange and the Rovers regulars thinking she has chickenpox, Charlie
makes his move on Violet. But, in fairness to the charm-free
builder, he buys her a mobile phone and doesn't give the number to
anyone else so that it's always free for calls from him. The
romantic fool! But when Ciaran tries to get into her bedroom (she
needs to sign for a brewery delivery!) and Charlie threatens to
kick him down the stairs, even the daftest Weatherfieldiuns suspect
something's up.
Leanne, with all the depth of a crème brulee and half the taste,
forgets her date with dozy Danny's dad as soon the younger beau
says he wants her back. But within minutes she's in the pub
flirting with the old man again.
Sadly, the passion book club no longer holds such passion. It seems
to have fizzled out now that Rita, Norris, Blanche and Lena decide
to go to the Weatherfield Arms for speed dating.
You wouldn't want to pull in there, would you? It's a half a stout
and a snog down an alley kind of place.
EMMERDALE Pregnant Debbie, who can clearly keep a
secret better than any Dingle under questioning, is spotted topless
by Daz and he, surprisingly, manages to understand what the bump
means. Will he tell Andy?
Andy won't care, he's busy preparing to take his posh totty to the
farmers' ball.
Parenthood is never easy in the village. Scott and Zoe enjoy a
picnic with Jean while Viv goes off to see a solicitor about his
rights. I tell you, he'll be on that garage roof in a Batman suit
soon.
And Nicola is lumbered with Simon's mum who moves into her dad's
house because she's hurt her arm. If I were to tolerate a poorly
Lesley in my home her inability to speak would have to be the
health issue.
EASTENDERS Kat's back among the pigeons of Albert
Square leaving Little Mo and Alfie running around like headless
cockneys. Then Big Mo organises a welcome home party where the
gathered guests decide Kat and Alfie should be together and so
should Little Mo and Billy.
The audience, I assume, would struggle to care less.
