Soapbox: A dodgy week as Charlie shines
by Rachel Broady18/ 8/2005
CORONATION STREET Forget Jennifer Aniston and
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt - Gail and Eileen are fighting over
foot doctor Phil. When his car is parked outside Eileen's for the
night she doesn't bother trying to curb the gossip leaving Gail
looking like she's sucking on a lemon. So what's new? But of course
she's furious and jealous and tells Phil's bosses that he's
fraternising with his clients. He decides never to see her again
and the cab office temptress looks like she'll win this fight with
her old enemy.
Meanwhile Gail's mum Audrey is dating Keith. What is it with her
and boring men? This one makes Alf look like the life and soul!
Maybe she should see Shelley's shrink Zack. He starts to find out
why Shelley hates to go outside (surely the blame lies with the
Corrie costume department), as she's sharing her innermost feelings
Charlie walks in and, feeling sorry for her, proposes! I think it's
just another cruel attempt to make her wear white and look like a
meringue.
EMMERDALE Mack the Knife is missing and Marlon is
distraught. Yes, it is as insane as it sounds. Viv has stolen
Marlon's much-loved kitchen tool to get revenge for her daughter.
Then she loses Mack and finds it in lost property in Newcastle -
where they happen to be on a trip - and then Marlon gets arrested
after pretending to stab her. Are we in a lull until the
scriptwriters come up with a decent storyline for us? I think
so.
Meanwhile, over in Whitley Bay, Diane and Paul reminisce about the
old times - including how Jimmy Pepper wasn't his dad and was a
nasty, nasty man, which is handy because he turns up. Then Diane
admits she had an affair with Tony Christie who also turns up and
dedicates a song to her. I'm not making this up!
Back in the village, Jimmy Pepper finds Val and demands cash from
her because she lied to him for years. You think he would've asked
for cash when he thought Paul
was his son.
EASTENDERS In a week of bad soaps it'd be easy to insult Eastenders. So here goes. Sam talks to Sharon but Sharon won't talk, so Sam talks to Chrissie. Rosie is worried about Demi's state of mind. Aren't we all, dear.
