Soapbox: Everybody out! A strike at t'factory
Rachel Broady21/10/2005
CORONATION STREET Strike! The women from
t'factory are out on t'cobbles at Underworld, so Danny brings in
scabs to join Sally and cross the picket line to make those
much-needed knickers.
As the strike continues, Mike is Neil Kinnock to Danny's Thatcher
(does that make Janice Scargill?) and he wants a swift end to the
dispute, so he reveals he's Danny's dad not his uncle. With the
skeletons in their cupboards the entire Baldwin family could run
for Tory leadership but, in the meantime, Mike executes an
ingenious plan to "get the girls back to work".
Business is no better at Streetcars with gangster Jimmy sending
around the heavy mob to scare Claire and Joshua. He should be
careful, she can fight that one - so Ashley had better watch out
too after handing in her resignation on her behalf!
Cilla has more important worries. She needs a wedding cake and
wants the one in Diggory's bakery window. She's also determined
that Kirk won't be Les's best man so sets up some tasks she thinks
he's sure to fail - including getting one of Blanche's
girdles.
EMMERDALE Ethan confesses that he's in love with
Laurel. That's not so bad except he does so during a sermon in
front of the entire congregation. He even admits he's been a minx
and has been fibbing to the Bishop to ruin Ashley's love life. So,
of course, they finally get permission to marry. Give it a few
weeks and Ashley will be bonking another barmaid!
Meanwhile, Steph has been falling for Adam for so long that he
realises but when he moves in for a kiss she goes for him with a
knife. He's lucky he wasn't tied up in the cellar!
But eventually she reveals her true feelings for him and her plans
don't involve making him take pills to pass out.
And Betty hears from Kathy in Australia and starts celebrating the
anticipated arrival home of Seth. I could make all sorts of
gruesome jokes here but I'll leave that up to you.
EASTENDERS Alfie is stunned at Nana Moon's latest
wish. Meanwhile, I'm stunned that Nana no longer has Altzheimer's.
What happened, did the scriptwriters forget they'd given her
that?
