AN ASYLUM seeker, whose supporters say faces certain death if deported, has been recognised for her work among fellow HIV sufferers.

Mahoro Mugabo, a Rwandan national who contracted the illness after being raped and tortured by captors in her homeland, has been given a coveted civic award by Manchester City Council.

The 44-year-old mother fled to Britain in 2003, leaving behind her two grown up children, and settled in Didsbury.
