Burnage fire: Was it arson?

Paul R Taylor
24/ 3/2008

ARSONISTS could be to blame for a massive fire that destroyed a block of flats in Burnage and caused power cuts to 3,000 homes across the area.

More than 50 fire fighters tackled the blaze at the five-storey apartment building, which was under construction, on Sunday night at about 10.30pm on Burnage Lane.

As I shop at Tesco weekly, it has always surprised me how poor the perimeter fencing was....bearing in mind we are not talking about Prestbury here.

Whilst anyone with a heart would have sympathy for the builders, I imagine a hefty insurance claim will be submitted so the developers should be ok.

Well done to the services for their handling of the situation...I was diverted by the police a couple of times and I got nothing but civility and courtesy.

Hopefully the burned out site will not take over from Renold's as the blot on the local landscape!

I hope Tesco had a standby generator for the all fridges. And adults are more than likely to be the offenders rather than children.

arson or accident, well done to the police paramedics and fire crews who attended. and for everyone who wants to blame the youth without proof or any evidence whatsoever.. shame on you. This is the MEN not the daily m!!!.

They were almighty bangs. I hope it wasn't arson, but it's not right to be blaming children before there is any proof.

Global warming caused the fire didn't it? Or is it the huge number of plastic bags used by the nearby Tesco?

Could be Arson, more likely to be kids as the security on the site is minimal, if any at all.
