Girls are in wonderland

THE Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts and the Cheshire Cat were just a handful of guests at Manchester High School for Girls’ best tea party yet.

Pupils at the Grangethorpe Road school donned impressive, colourful costumes as they presented their mini-musical version of Alice in Wonderland as part of the school’s annual Christmas celebrations.

More than 120 children, between the ages of seven and nine, from the school’s preparatory department took part in the panto performance, wowing a sell-out crowd of parents.

The school hall was transformed into a magical wonderland especially for the performance, which followed Alice and her fellow characters on a trip down the rabbit hole, leading from one adventure to another.

Alongside the performance, members of the audience were given the opportunity to get into the festive spirit by singing popular Christmas carols, as well as munching on mince pies.

Manchester High School for Girls headteacher Christine Lee-Jones said: "The girls are to be applauded for producing such a high quality performance with which to bring the term to an end. We have a lot of budding musical and acting talent in the preparatory department and all of the pupils were delighted to have the opportunity to perform in front of their friends and family."
