5/ 6/2008
THE first ever triathlon held in South Manchester has been hailed a ‘tremendous success’.
Sports enthusiasts raced to Chorlton Water Park to take part in the suburb’s first-ever triathlon.
More than 50 people competed in the event and tested their fitness levels to the max by completing a 400 metre swim, a 10km bike ride and a 2.5km run.
The triathlon was also a hit with youngsters as more than 30 competitors turned up to take their place in the children’s triathlon.
The male winner on the day was Lee Dunn, who completed the triathlon in 44 minutes. Lee was followed by Ian Shackcloth and Rob Bell, who took second and third place.
Leading the women to the finish line was Andrea Bushnall, who came first with a total time of 49 minutes. Second place went to Lucy Lloyd-Roach and third place to Emma Brown.
Organiser Dave Quartermain said: "The event was a tremendous success."
Chorlton’s next triathlon will take place on Saturday, July 12 at Chorlton Water Park. For more information log onto www.uberfitevents.com.
