Shameless Danny is set for silver screen

TV WRITER Danny Brocklehurst has landed a dream role - writing a £10 million Hollywood blockbuster.
The Didsbury-based scriptwriter - who penned hits such as BBC1's postal drama Sorted and the Channel 4 comedy Shameless - has written a new film based on the Fathers4Justice movement.
The film, which is being made by Harbour Pictures, the company behind the successful Calendar Girls film, will be filmed in Britain but aimed at the American market.
The drama will tell the fictionalised tale of a number of the group's members.
Danny said: "It's a fantastic opportunity - it's the biggest thing I've done so far. I spent a lot of time with the guys who started Fathers4Justice and they are the heroes of the film - flawed heroes.
"I think what they are fighting for - fathers' rights - is worthwhile, although the way they go about it sometimes is quite unorthodox.
"Although I'm not a father myself, I think you have to imagine what it would be like if you couldn't see your children."
He added: "I did a lot of research and spoke to a lot of people from all over the country, including some from Manchester."
Danny, grew up in Hyde, east Manchester, but has lived in Didsbury for 10 years.
He was one of the main writers on a number of award-winning shows, including Linda Green and Clocking Off.
Danny became chief writer on Shameless when creator Paul Abbott moved on to other things.
His most recent TV project was the Stockport-based comedy drama Sorted. Danny said: "I had a meeting at the BBC and they wanted me to create a new series and asked me what I wanted to write about.
"They said they wanted something that would appeal to a male audience, so I created Sorted, about six guys who worked in a post office."
But despite the popularity of the prime-time programme, the BBC has turned down the chance to make another series. Danny said: "They were quite celebratory about what it had done for them when it was shown over the summer, but they said it didn't fit into their slate for next year.
"I would be lying if I said that I wasn't disappointed.
"I am a bit annoyed though about it because the people who wanted me to do it have since gone to ITV, so maybe if it had been done with them in the first place, we'd be doing a second series now."
As for the future, another of Danny's upcoming projects is to be called Is This Love?.
He said: "It's going to star Max Beasley as a sort of cross between Cold Feet and Shameless. It's a relationship drama with an attitude, and is set in London."
