Road death tragedy

20/12/2002

A MAN has died one day after being in collision with a car.

Simon Collins, 23, of Fallowfield, died at Manchester Royal Infirmary, after the pedestrian earlier suffered multiple injuries from the road incident.

Mr Collins is originally from Staffordshire and was studying in Manchester, although it's believed he was on a year out from academia.

Police say the incident was 'a fail to stop road traffic accident' close to The Academy music venue on Oxford Road, Manchester, at 2am on December 18.

They issued a statement identifying a silver L-registered Honda heading southbound along Oxford Road towards Rusholme.

Police have arrested and bailed a Levenshulme man, 23, in connection with the accident. He has helped police with their enquiries and bailed.

Officers are still keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the accident or was in the area at the time.
