Footie-lovers go for the juggler at Circus Ronaldo

A CIRCUS has been inundated with calls from angry football fans - because it shares a name with Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portugal winger has become public enemy number one following his role in the sending off of Wayne Rooney as England crashed out of the World Cup to Portugal.

Now organisers of the Manchester-based Streets Ahead festival have revealed that they have received a number of calls from irate supporters after announcing that Circus Ronaldo is to perform at Platt Fields - even though the performers have nothing to do with the Manchester United star and all hail from Belgium.

At first staff thought it was a joke but now say they are fed up of fending off calls about the player.

They are now hoping that the circus, which runs from Friday, July 14, until Monday, July 17, will not be overrun by irate footie fans.

Anne Tucker, of Streets Ahead, said: "We have had loads of calls over the last couple of weeks since England lost.

"There have been a mixture of general inquiries from people wanting to know if Ronaldo is related to the performers or has anything to do with them.

"One even asked if he will be there. At one point we thought it was a hoax but people sounded so genuinely curious.

"It's quite interesting that people make that connection."

Tickets for the circus cost £12 and £6 are available from the box office on 0161 270 0600.

It seems to me every time England loses a game they try to find an excuse, fact is England lost not once but twice to Portugal ( World Cup - Euro Cup ) so stop crying about the game and take the lose like a man. Portugal lost to Germany you don't see portugal fans making up excuses for the lose.

I find it strange that your paper insinuates that Ronaldo had a role in sending off Rooney. That statement and others undermine truth and Ronaldo's potential future at ManU. In addition, there is no truth to that assessment. Without Ronaldo, Rooney is not as effective. Tactically, flank play opens up the middle for Rooney, without Roanaldo defenses will pack the middle and put plenty of groins to be stepped on by "shreck" Rooney.
