Young animators show racism the red card

AN ANIMATION made by a group of primary schoolchildren with an anti-racism message has won a national award.

The seven youngsters from Alma Park Primary School in Levenshulme got their thinking caps on and came up with a film that has been hailed as 'inspirational'.

They wrote a script and created a miniature set out of cardboard and paper for their stop-motion animation film. Toy figures were used as characters and the pupils provided voice-overs to go with the action.

One scene sees Leonardo from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles talking about feeling upset when others bully him for being green. The minute-long film has beaten entries by nearly 90 schools in a national competition run by the Show Racism The Red Card organisation.

The pupils who made the film at the Errwood Road school were Minahil Qureshi, ten, Tamin Choudary, ten, Aneesah Kamran, 11, Areeba Shadid, 11, Gazi Malik, ten, Callum McGuinness, 11, and Zameer Tariq, 11.

Their teacher, Danny Bullivant, said he was delighted at how well they had done.

"I was so impressed with the amount of time and hard work they put into creating the film. I think it's a brilliant film and a fantastic way of getting the message across that racism is wrong. I'm really proud of them."

Minahil Qureshi, ten, said she enjoyed doing the project.

"I loved making the film because we've never done stop motion animation before. It was really good fun," she said.

Minahil, along with her mum, Roheena, went to the Wembley Stadium, to collect the award on behalf of the group.

"It was really good and there were lots of famous people there," she said.

As well being presented with the award, Minahil was given a football signed by the Chelsea players, and a signed Sheffield Wednesday shirt. She has generously offered to let one of them be raffled off at the school's fair this Saturday.

Show Racism The Red Card is an organisation which works with professional footballers and institutions to educate young people about tackling racism. The annual competition encourages schoolchildren to create projects across various arts, and this is the eighth time it has been run. The category won by the Alma Park pupils, was for art and multi-media projects by primary schoolchildren in years five to seven.

Gav Sutherland, of Show Racism The Red Card, said the four judges enjoyed watching the short film.

"It was inspirational because it was a simple but effective way of showing how people can get hurt by racist attitudes."

The film is expected to be put on a DVD, along with the other category winners, to be used in schools.

The term racism is a synonym for the word European. Our species is a predatory species, we discriminate by nature. All healthy races discriminate.

So, the contest should be called: Give Europeans the red card.

A healthy race discriminates, attempts to maintain its power within a society, both in terms of its percentage and its power within the power structure.

The Welsh, English and Scots are sick races.

Should less emphasis be placed on the results of tests and more emphasis on general education for children?
