REMEMBRANCE Sunday has been and gone yet the real date of the Armistice was the eleventh hour of the eleventh day. One happy event on this Remembrance Sunday was that Syd celebrated his 85th birthday. Syd was involved on a little trek through Normandy, France just weeks after the D-Day landings in 1944. Thankfully 'young' Syd survived to tell the tale although, just like many old soldiers, he never divulges the full horror of what he witnessed.

EVIDENTLY belief in a 'higher power' or 'God' goes hand-in-hand with belief in a life after death or 'heaven'. Most religions conform to the basic idea that you live your life, grow old (hopefully), get ill, spend ages in hospital (hopefully not) and eventually die.

GHOSTS, eh? I was told this story recently by the survivor. It was a dark night in south Manchester, the wind sighed softly through the trees at the side of the cemetery as bats coughed and squeaked their way around old graves searching for their nightly meal of ugly fat bugs.
