Derby win is in Range

WHALLEY Range went to the top of their Surridge Cup group table following victory in a low-scoring local derby against South West Manchester.

Batting first, Range were dismissed for 136 in which Zarrar Malik top-scored with 45, supported by Faizan Ahmad (23) and Saleem Akram (18) after they had been 95-8.

Khalid Mahmood took 3-25 and Sivakumar 2-28 for South West whose reply began solidly thanks to Dasgupta (25) and Kevin Rowland (16).

However, Range hit back thanks to Haroon Pasha (3-12), Zarrar Malik (2-8), Paul Davies (2-33) and Neil Cusick (2-22) to bowl out South West for 101 despite Sivakuma’s unbeaten 29.

South West’s seconds were victorious though, defeating Euxton by 163 runs as they made 225-8 before dismissing their opponents for 63 with four wickets each for Graham Turner and David Parker.

Range’s seconds were well beaten by Bolton Indians as they were all out for 129 chasing Bolton’s 195-3.

Wythenshawe opened their cup campaign with a 24-run defeat at Hindley St Peters where the home side posted 160-9, Martin Leonard taking 3-20.

Wicketkeeper Chris Canning (52) led the Wythenshawe reply but only received substantial support from Paul Burrell (22) as they fell for 136.

Wythenshawe’s seconds won the reverse fixture by 55 runs, making 140-8 before Chris Bradley’s 5-8 wrecked the Hindley reply.
