Hanging on

1/ 5/2008

DIDSBURY CC were brought back down to earth in division one of the Cheshire County League as they had to work hard to scrape a draw against Poynton.

Didsbury did reasonably well in the field to restrict their hosts to a relatively modest 150-8 with Andy Windle easily the pick of the Didsbury attack with 4-33 while Stuart Stoneman added 2-33.

The Didsbury reply never got off the ground as they lost wickets at an alarming rate and it needed responsible innings of 20 apiece from Nick Anderson and Phil Mason to see them deny Poynton victory as they hung on at 86-9.

Didsbury’s seconds were held in the reverse fixture at Wilmslow Road after amassing a useful score 201-6.

Skipper Mark Burns was again in good form with 42 as Adam Pearce top-scored with 60 and there was also a useful 30 from Pete Shipston.

Poynton soon settled for a draw as Rob Istead (4-19) and Nigel Bellamy (2-26) had them at 107-8.
