Stalemate in the sun

15/ 5/2008

DIDSBURY came near to a vital win in division one of the Cheshire County League as home team Christleton were forced to settle for a draw as summer finally arrived.

In humid conditions favouring the swing bowlers, Didsbury had to graft for their runs and the main supply came from Nick Anderson (63) and Trevor Gane (37) in their final total of 179-7.

All of the Didsbury attack played their part in limiting the home team’s runs in their reply, which ended with them shutting up shop with their final pair at the crease and the scoreboard reading 157-9.

Didsbury’s seconds kept up their bright start to the season with a fine six-wicket win at Wilmslow Road over Neston.

Neston enjoyed a good batting surface and surprisingly declared their innings early on 201-5 with Nigel Bellamy the top home bowler with figures of 3-56.

With plenty of overs to chase down their target Didsbury set about the task with relish.

Skipper Mark Burns hit a breezy 20 to put them on the way before Steve Whiteside (79) and Ollie Steward (46) rattled up the runs, taking them home with 13 overs in hand.
