SOUTH West Manchester took home the bulk of the points from their Manchester Association Premier Division derby against a Whalley Range side left hanging on for a draw.
Batting first, South West worked very hard to end their innings on 151-9 with Khalid Mahmood (49) and Jhangir Abbas (36) providing the bulk of the runs.
Waqas Malik (3-31) and Niraj Vasani (2-37) bowled with great purpose and economy for Range, whose reply enjoyed a solid foundation thanks to Zarrar Malik (36) and Mike Sutherland (21).
However, the rest of the Range batsmen failed to capitalise as Shazad Akbar (5-23) and South West skipper Najeeb Ahmad (3-30) left their opponents hanging on at 136-9.
There was no joy for South West’s seconds as they failed to chase down Euxton’s 142-9.
Ian Larkins (3-48), Steve Giles (3-30) and and Graham Turner (2-43) were among the wickets for South West, giving their batsmen what appeared a relatively comfortable task.
However, their reply lacked a big score as they were shot out for 80 with only Kami Khan (28) and Turner (10 not out) reaching double figures.
Range’s seconds got the better of a low-scoring affair with Lostock despite batting first and being dismissed for 56.
Lostock then found batting even harder as they were skittled for 38 with Mo Khan (5-12) and John Sheehan (5-23) doing the damage.
