City close in on ex-Red Fortune

CITY are hoping to complete the signing of Quinton Fortune this week.

And boss Stuart Pearce is also keen to quickly wrap up the arrival of French teenager Samir Nasri on a season's loan from Marseille.

Once he has secured the pair the Blues' boss will then concentrate on finding another midfielder to add to his squad and has not ruled out joining the race for Liverpool's Didi Hamann who is likely to cost around '500,000.

Bolton are also chasing Hamann and have shown an interest in former United ace Fortune who last week appeared to rule out a switch to Celtic who had offered him just a one-year deal.

Pearce flew back from the World Cup for a meeting with Blues' chairman John Wardle last week to discuss progress on the transfer front. South African Fortune topped the agenda.

Possible new boy Nasri, who started 14 games last season for the top French side and has plenty of UEFA Cup experience, comes highly recommended with a glowing tribute from Zinedine Zidan.

Marseille are willing to let the teenager leave on a 12-month loan to further his footballing education.

well, i just said there is no point selling barton to a club that is in direct competition with us for premiership places. what's the point in reinforcing the likes of everton or boro when we need players. but if we sold him to a foreign team we'd make some money and never hear from him again.

can i throw another name into the ring that we should be looking at signing (although the fee may be more than we can afford) Florent Malouda,French,young,powerful,box to box midfielder,great passer of the ball, like a young Patrick Viera,think he plays for Bordeaux. If anyone watched the France v S.Korea game he was probably France's best player.get a bid in now before he has any more good games and price rockets, he is everything that Barton isn't(but thinks he is)

Unfortunately when a club finishes where we did and no money in the pot what "quality" players are going to queue up to come to us? Yes City is a great and massive club with a rich history. However we have had the "past it" journeymen, so I don't think Harmann is the answer. I read we are linked with a number a players but it sticks in the throat when Thombert prefers Portsmouth. Someone needs to find some funds if only for one "quality player" so to influence others to come even if they are "good" loan deals until the finances improve and we don't want to do Leeds!. CTID

At this point I'm willing to indulge in some temporary contentment over ANY signing that has to do with the midfield. I'll reserve my judgement for later and just be glad that there will be some competition for starting places. That's the least (or the most) we can hope for at this stage.

Not holding my breath on any of these. Fortune? just seemed to be dirty whenever I watched him, but give him a go and get Hamann cos it's about time Barton went. I am sick of his attitude and his passing is awful. Hope SP has not forgotten Onouha and Jordan these lads should be in our first team.

Since we are not a team to attract players like Henry, Nistelrooy or Vieira I'd say Fortune and Nasri are very decent signings. That is, if these rumours have any basis at all. I'd love to see Hamann in Manchester as well. And those who still think we will relegate next season, go away and stay there! Our team is too good these days. CTID!!

I'll believe these signings when they actually put pen to paper. I still don't think we'll sign anyone else this summer. It's just been too slow, with no real importance being shown to strengthen this threadbare squad. Maybe city might surprise us, but i wouldn't bet on it.

thrappy,according to skysports the peruvian is a hot property in Argentina where he plays, City will bring him in on 12 month loan with 1st option to buy (play before you pay deal) rumours are we are also after Dean Bowditch from Ipswich, 19 year old forward/midfielder.

For the last six or seven months Stuart Pearce has been concentrating on things he shouldn't - first he thought he could get the England managers job so was courting every man and his dog when he should've been concentrating on CITY and now he's busy being a tv pundit when he should be sorting transfers out .... Prove me wrong Stuart and come back from Germany with some world class players or is that too much to ask ?
