Win double boosts Road

IT’S been a hugely profitable week for Maine Road, as another couple of victories has propelled the local outfit into third place in the Vodkat League first division table.

Road produced a splendid display at Brantingham Road on Saturday as they swept Squires Gate aside 4-1.

An early goal from Ryan Baldwin set the home side on their way, before Luke Mack scored the first of his two goals in the 25th minute.

Danny Self pounced to make it 3-0 just before half time.

Mack struck again just before the hour mark and Road were 4-0 up and strolling.

However, they took their foot off the gas and Squires Gate scored the final goal of the game late on.

Road secured their fourth straight win on Tuesday night when they beat Ramsbottom United 2-1 at home.

McManus had put the visitors ahead with just 20 minutes to go, but an own goal and then Steve Cheetham’s 84th-minute winner handed the home side the three points which fired them up another place in the table.

Road travel to Abbey Hey in the league on Saturday as they try and make it five wins on the spin.

On Tuesday, October 23, Road welcome UniBond Premier Division side Ashton United who will come to do battle in a Manchester Premier Cup first round tie [7.45pm ko].
