GREGORIANS’ fading hopes of lifting the Manchester Football League Premier Division title were given a boost as they defeated leaders Irlam MS 2-0.

An even first half saw Rob Doyle open the scoring in the 25th minute before Gregs sealed victory thanks to Leon Walters’ fine strike on 65 minutes.

The other good news for Gregs was that their main title rivals, Wigan Robin Park, lost to Springhead.

Ronan Harkin, Luke Flanagan and Joseph Traore netted as Gregs’ B team beat Wilmslow Albion’s reserves 3-2.

Wythenshawe Amateurs were beaten 1-0 by Stockport Georgians.

In division one, West Didsbury and Chorlton defeated Manchester Juniors 3-2.

Juniors were 2-0 up during the first half thanks to Chris Wright’s double.

Although West did most of the attacking during the second half, it looked as if Juniors would hold out.

However, having seen Juniors’ Wayne Leather depart with injury, West pulled one back in the 75th minute.

They equalised when the referee allowed them to take a free kick while the home defence was setting up their wall, before the winner came three minutes from time.

Elsewhere, West’s seconds lost 3-0 against Springhead while the A team went down 3-1 to Rochdale Sacred Heart.
