Getting tight

17/ 4/2008

GREGORIANS’ hopes of securing their first Manchester Football League Premier Division title look set to go to the wire after a hard-earned midweek point at Pennington.

This was followed by a postponed game against title rivals Royton Town, along with many others on Saturday, but Gregs can gain hope from the fact that they are level on points with leaders Royton Town as well as boasting two vital games in hand.

Wigan Robin Park are six points adrift of Gregs and Royton but have two games in hand.

Gregs’ other team in action was the A squad who remained second in division three behind Wigan Robin Park after a 1-0 win over Atherton Town’s reserves.

The goal drought continued for Wythenshawe Amateurs who went down 2-0 at Springhead, leaving them grateful for their early-season form which lifted them high in the table.

In division one, West Didsbury and Chorlton were the only club to beat the monsoons but were beaten 2-0 by lowly Fives Athletic in midweek.

However, their A side were in vibrant form as they won a nine-goal thriller with Walshaw SC, 5-4.
