GREGORIANS remained top of the Manchester Football League Premier Division despite only gaining one point from their two most recent games.
Having lost 2-1 at East Manchester in midweek, Gregs were held to a goalless draw by Prestwich Heys at Platt Lane. However, their main title rivals fared little better with Gregs now a point ahead of Royton Town with a game in hand, and five points clear of Wigan Robin Park who have two games in hand.
Wythenshawe Amateurs were victorious, beating Leigh Athletic 3-0 thanks to goals from Dave Carpenter, Patrick Reid and Chris Howard.
Ammies’ seconds recorded 2-2 draws at Monton and Elton Vale, Gregs’ reserves were beaten 2-0 by East Manchester, but their A side defeated Chapel Town 5-2.
In division one, there were wins for Manchester Juniors and West Didsbury and Chorlton against Old Alts and Avro respectively, but West’s A side lost 5-1 to Hindsford’s reserves.
Northenden-based Govan Athletic lifted the Lancashire and Cheshire League division two title without kicking a ball as closest rivals New East Manchester suffered defeats against Droylsden Ams and Heaton Mersey.
Next month’s Rhodes Cup final sees Old Trafford face Hollingworth OB following victories against Whalley Range and Gatley respectively.
Moston Brook moved nearer to the division one title with a 4-1 win against Stoconians, while Whalley Range pushed Burnage Metro nearer to the drop thanks to a 4-0 victory.
Parrs Wood Celtic dropped into the bottom two after a 2-0 defeat against Cheadle Hulme Villa, while Chorltonians still have faint hopes of survival should they win their remaining game.
Chorlts’ seconds had a 5-0 success against Alkrington Dynamoes, South Manchester’s seconds beat Bedians 4-1, while Whalley Range prevailed 4-0 at Stoconians.
Bedians were beaten 3-0 in the Whitehead Cup by Stocs’ A squad whose D team were beaten 3-2 by Burnage Metro B in the Hellawell Shield.
Metro C lost on penalties against Mellor following a 3-3 draw, their seconds beat Hooley Bridge Celtic 4-0, while Govan Athletic’s seconds defeated Mellor A 1-0.
The Manchester Publicity Sunday League saw West Manchester claim the division one title after a 4-2 win over Cheadle Hulme Albion.
Hardly Athletic saw off Olympico, Inter Didsbury went down 3-2 against Manchester Rovers, while Four In Hand Motown defeated AFC Gorton 2-1.
In division two, Real Fallowfield beat Urmston La Coruna 5-3.
