BROUGHTON Park are only two points off a promotion play-off place and with a game in hand after winning 19-3 at Winnington Park while close rivals Stockport were going down to defeat.

Playing into the first-half wind, Park went behind to a penalty on the half-hour before Dave Hanby’s try and Ronan O’Brien’s conversion put them 7-3 ahead at half-time.

With the wind behind them in the second period, constant pressure was rewarded when Pete MacMahon sent Tom Mapp over in the corner for a try which O’Brien failed to convert.

Leading 12-3, Park exerted almost constant pressure before scoring in the final minute when O’Brien took a quick tap penalty to score under the posts, adding the conversion to ensure the victory.

However, Park’s game in hand will be played next week and is against their bogey side, Leigh, whom they have not defeated since 2001.
