Leigh are no breeze
20/ 3/2008
BROUGHTON Park’s hopes of a promotion play-off place were diminshed after losing 12-7 against bogey team Leigh.
Two tries saw Leigh 12-0 ahead after 23 minutes as Park, playing against the wind, struggled to get out of their own half.
A difficult playing surface left Park only able to make an occasional foray into the Leigh half before the half-time whistle.
Playing with the wind behind them in the second period, Park cut the deficit to five points when Leigh deliberately pulled down a driven maul, the referee awarding a penalty try which was subsequently converted to make it 12-7.
Leigh found it just as difficult to get out of their own half against the wind and atrocious foot conditions as Park did in the first half.
One of their odd attacks saw Park winger Pat Hurley intercept a pass, only to be caught just before the line.
It proved not to be Park’s day when, right on full time, they knocked on with the line beckoning to waste their final chance.
