Moss Park 4 Stockport 5

20/12/2007

A LATE winner saw Moss Park’s first team beaten by league leaders Stockport last weekend.

Moss almost took the lead on a couple of occasions after Sandra Harwood and Amanda Irwin combined effectively to get around the back of the Stockport defence.

However, they were not able to convert those chances and went behind as Stockport scored three times without reply.

Just before the break, Moss Park reduced their deficit when Jenny Leng scored from Liz Thomas’ free hit, getting them back into the game.

Fired up from their half-time team talk, Moss Park soon levelled the game as Fiona O’Keefe and Kelly Raftery both scored for the home side.

Although Moss Park looked to be in control of the game, Stockport went back in front when a pacy run from one of their midfielders resulted in a well-taken goal and a 4-3 lead.

Undeterred, Moss Park pressed for another goal and were rewarded when Leng got her second, again from a Thomas free hit to bring the match level again.

With 10 minutes still to play, both teams were determined to take all three points from the game, having worked so hard in attack and defence in the freezing conditions.

Unfortunately for the home side, it was Stockport who justified their league leaders’ status by getting the winner.

There was still time for Moss to equalise and they had a great opportunity to do so from a penalty corner.

However, Moss were unable to score for the fifth time when the Stockport goalkeeper twice managed to clear the ball from close range.
