Leaders knocked out

ALTHOUGH unfit grounds caused the postponement of the entire Altrincham SFL programme, six matches in the League Cup and Altrincham FA Cup were able to take place.

Premier Division leaders Lisbon St Anthony’s went out of the Altrincham FA Cup, losing 3-1 at Black Boy with John Maloney netting their consolation.

Three teams made it through to the fourth round, all courtesy of hat-tricks, as Tom Murphy’s trio saw Buck Inn to an 8-0 triumph at Cheshire Midland.

Anthony Maas netted three times for Old Alts in a 7-0 win at Sacred Heart Celtic with Nigel Griffin, Reco Stewart, Gareth Jones and Ged Manning also on target.

Vine Tavern were also emphatic 10-2 victors over Yew Tree, Nick Plant completing the hat-trick heroes with Anthony Barlow, James Liversedge (two each), Mike Hayes and Mike Burnett finding the net.

In the League Cup, Pelican eased to a 5-1 win over USC with doubles from Andy Meadows and Rob Coultass being topped up by a single from Ashley Baines.

Ladybarn put up a spirited display against Sale West United before going down 3-1. Andy Roberts scored for Ladybarn with Mike Morris, Paul Hayes and Simon Youd provding the firepower for United.
