Good progress

WYTHENSHAWE Amateurs’ young team showed how far they have come this season in a terrific game at Longley Lane where they entertained reigning Premier Division champions Prestwich Heys.

The team, managed by Kevin Aston, began the season with several inexperienced young players brought from their lower teams and they struggled to get results at the start of the season.

Over the last two months though, they have gained in confidence and let their football do the talking as they have climbed into the comfort of the top half of the table.

Entertaining Heys also gave them a chance to show their qualities and do local rivals Gregorians a favour by taking points off their main title rivals Heys.

In the end, a pulsating game went to the visitors by the odd goal in seven, allowing Heys to close the gap at the top on Gregorians to six points with Heys having two games in hand.

However, Ammies’ young players showed that they are quickly coming of age with a fine display.

As for our local division one teams, both Manchester Juniors and West Didsbury and Chorlton were in League Cup action.

There was success for both sides as they reached the next round.

West had an emphatic 6-1 win over lowly Fives Athletic, but Manchester Juniors were in a much tighter game in their derby at Wythenshawe Town.

It ended with the scores level at 3-3 but the Juniors kept their nerve to win the penalty shoot-out 3-1.

Its good to see Kevin doing well down at Longley Lane during his time at the 'TOWN' he worked so hard but was very unlucky in as much most of his hard graft went unrewarded, good luck Kevin for the rest of the season.
