Final flourish

3/ 4/2008

DARTS: FINALS night in the South Manchester Log-End League produced shocks and surprises before Albert Withington’s Neil Hunter emerged as the winner, beating St Crispins’ Steve Moane 3-0.

Saints had featured strongly on the night, boasting three quarter-finalists as Moane beat clubmate Alan Hargreaves 2-0 before seeing off colleague Tiernan McCorkell.

The other half of the draw saw Hunter beat South West’s Harold Rimmington 2-0 before winning the last leg to defeat Carlton Club’s Pauline Balderstone in the semi-final.

Hunter then cruised to the title, 36, 24 and 21-darters giving him success.

The individual crib finals brought success for South West president Graham Turner as he defeated Albert Withington’s Kevin McGlinchey 3-1.

Turner had earlier beaten Green End’s Alan Hawkins and Lauriston’s Eddie McGuire, while McGlinchey accounted for compatriots Alan Kennedy and Chris Doyle.
