Levenshulme are new leaders

LEVENSHULME BC are the new leaders in the battle for the Sale and District Bowls League division one title after opening their campaign with two comfortable wins.

Their latest success was a hard-earned 17-chalk victory at South West Manchester A team which gives them a slender lead over reigning champions Cringlewood A.

Newly-promoted Trinity have begun brightly with two wins, Chorlton being their latest victims, but Roebuck are finding it a hot pace in the top flight as they languish in the wooden spoon position.

South West B are the surprise leaders in division two after winning the wooden spoon last season.

Even without the experience of the injured Bob Lomas, South West were too strong for Sale Cons with an emphatic 20-chalk win and lead the table by two chalks from Brooklands.

New boys Carrington Spur fared better than their big opening day defeat but were always second best to Pickering.
