MANCHESTER Waconians ended their season in fine style with a 23-9 triumph over Brooklands Hulmeians in the Men's North of England Premier Division.

The Wilmslow Road club have finished the season strongly, capped with a history-making charge for the Easters Eights title.

Wacs' victory cemented fifth spot in the top flight and boss Phil Greenwood has been more than happy with his team's success this season.

"Winning the Easter Eights really made our season," said Greenwood. "We've finished fifth in the league again, but it's positive to see that we are producing some good young players.

"We're all very proud of the kids we've brought in this year - they've all done a fantastic job, especially when they were thrown in at the deep end at times."

Dominic Fitzgerald and Tom Caplin led the victory charge against Brooklands Hulmeians with four goals each, while Kevin Ryan, skipper Steve Shanahan and Josh Shingler all netted hat-tricks.

Chris Fetter and Ian Cain scored doubles, with Tom Gallon and Lee Houston also on target.

Wacs A gave a battling display away in losing their Lancashire Cup semi-final 13-7 at Rochdale.

However, Wacs. B team will be looking to win the club's second piece of silverware at the Flags Festival Weekend, which runs in Rochdale between April 9-10.

They meet Cheadle B in the David Beesley Cup final on Saturday, 11.30am start.
